Basic Biographical Details Name: | Alfred Swash | Designation: | | Born: | 1860 | Died: | 1939 | Bio Notes: | Alfred Swash was born in Neash, near Swansea. He was educated at Shebbear College, Devon and served his articles with Habershon, Pite & Fawckner of Newport from 1877. He remained as an assistant with the same firm for nine years after completing his apprenticeship. In 1893 he won the competition for the Durham Road Schools, Newport, Monmouthshire with John Bain (born 1868), who had served his articles with Matthews & Lawrie of Inverness and had worked in the office of Blanc & Gordon in Edinburgh before returning to Inverness as senior assistant to Ross & Macbeth. How Swash and Bain had met is unclear, but they then entered into partnership, practising as Messrs Swash & Bain at Midland Bank Chambers, Newport, Monmouthshire.
