Bio Notes: George Alexander was the father of George Murray Alexander. He was born on 9 November 1818 at Liberton Dams, Edinburgh, the son of John Alexander, carter, and his wife Euphan Dow. He married Ann Murray on 11 December 1846. By 1851 George is described as a wright. The couple were living at that time in Causewayside but by 1861 they had moved to Grange Loan. Ten years later George senior is described as 'master builder'. The couple had seven children. The third child and second son was George Murray Alexander who became an architect.

George senior died on 14 August 1892 aged 73. His wife died the following year aged 65.
